The Levant.. A Roaming Genocide

We need to stop viewing events in the Levant as separate and isolated. To clarify, by the Levant, we mean the region extending from the Mediterranean Sea in the west to Iraq in the east, and from Turkey in the north to the Arabian Peninsula and Egypt in the south. These events—whether in the Syrian coast, Gaza, Lebanon, the West Bank, or Iraq—are all part of an ongoing genocide that does not cease. The Levant is one entity consumed by hatred, division and occupation.

This genocide has internal perpetrators and external supporters and influencers. In occupied Palestine, Israel is exterminating Palestinians in Gaza and forcibly displacing them from the West Bank. This is happening with the direct support and participation of the Americans. In Syria, Jabhat al-Nusra – rebranded as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham – is exterminating Alawites and sending clear threats to Christians that their turn is coming. This group, still classified as a terrorist organization by most Western powers, receives direct support from Turkey. Preventing southern Lebanese from returning to their destroyed homes and rebuilding them until they surrender to Israel’s demands is enslavement in progress.

Who benefits from this extermination?

There are three primary beneficiaries and several secondary ones. The first is Israel, which has entered a new phase in implementing its “Greater Israel” project, with all its implications for expanding the Jewish state. The second is the United States, which covets the region’s resources and strategic location. The third is Turkey, which seeks to restore its former glory as an Ottoman Empire. The secondary players include Iran, the Arabian Peninsula, and Egypt, each of which has a historical interest in keeping the region weak and divided to expand its influence. Following them are Britain and France, former imperial powers in the region, now trying to pick up some scraps from the American table.

Is there a way to stop this madness?

Yes, but with great difficulty and strong will. The challenge lies in the deeply rooted internal hatred, the enormous external ambitions, and the resulting exhaustion of the region’s people, pushing them into despair.

A new vision of life must take root in the hearts and minds of the people in this region. They must believe that all people are born equal, regardless of their parents’ religious affiliation; they must look at one another with love and respect; and they must always reject any attempt at external interference, no matter how it is disguised. The foundation for all of this must be a burning desire to reclaim the historical role that these people played in contributing to human civilization— a role that cannot be restored while they remain shackled by hatred, weakness, and subjugation.
