“It’s us or them”, say the mothers of Palestinian martyrs as they distribute candy to those coming to offer their condolences – or their congratulations – at the martyrdom of their children. If this sounds surrealistic, it is. It is more so when one comprehends the significance of how quickly the condolences tents for the Palestinian martyrs in Jenin turned, instantaneously, to celebration tents, upon hearing that a Palestinian gunman shot and killed several Israelis.
But such has been the world of the Palestinians since the enactment of the Zionist project, first by the Zionist movement and later by world powers.
It is interesting to read Washington’s reaction to two events that happened days apart. When Israel entered Jenin Camp and killed ten Palestinians, State Department spokesperson Ned Price said that more than 20 people were injured in the Israeli counterterrorism operation and there was an “urgent need for all parties to de-escalate, prevent further loss of civilian life, and work together to improve the security situation in the West Bank.”
When a Palestinian killed seven Israelis two days later, Biden immediately said: “This was an attack against the Civilized world.” If the Israeli occupiers of Palestine, past and present, are the face of the Civilized world, then this Civilized world is reaping what it has sown.
It is this Civilized world that conspired, in secret meetings between 1916 and 1922, to rob Palestinians from their land and turn Palestine over to the Zionist movement. Not only Britain, but also France, the Vatican, Italy, the United State, and even Japan, endorsed the Zionist movement’s aim, before the League of Nations was created. So, when that body was created to “End the war of all wars”, as the slogan was, it opened the gates of hell to the Palestinians, by including, in the charter of British Mandate over Palestine, the Balfour Declaration. It was the Civilized world that appointed Herbert Samuel, an ardent Zionist, as the first High Commissioner over Palestine, with the sole purpose of overseeing the Zionists takeover of Palestine.

“It’s us or them.” This is what the Palestinians understood from day one. They have been fighting, not only Israel and its expanding settlements, but the huge Israeli Establishment of world powers standing behind it. This establishment is made up of all kinds of Zionists, Christian, Jewish and Muslim. They all have one purpose, entrench the occupation, legitimize it, and get rid of the Palestinians. The Palestinians fully understand that “It’s us or them”, and they act accordingly.
